Medical Astrology: Planets For disease & Remedy
The ancient seers (Rishis) observed that planetary energies affect both our physical and mental well-being. When these celestial forces are imbalanced, they manifest as diseases and ailments in human life. The Garud Puran, Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and other Jyotish scriptures highlight the profound link between planetary afflictions (Graha Doshas) and health disorders.
No planetary force is beyond divine intervention. Among all celestial energies, Lord Shiva – Mahadev – is the Supreme Healer. He is the ruler of Kaal (Time), the dissolver of Karma, and the giver of longevity and good health.
The very first teaching I received from my guru was that Mahadev himself is the supreme ruler of all the Navagrahas. He is Mrityunjaya, the one who has conquered death. No matter which planet may be causing health issues, the first and foremost step – before even consulting an astrologer is to offer prayers to Mahadev. His divine grace transcends planetary afflictions, bringing healing and protection.
As the Vedas proclaim:
“चन्द्रार्चितो यः सततं सुरैरपि
ग्रहाधिपो विश्वपतिः महेश्वरः”
(He who is eternally worshiped by Chandra and the Devas, the Lord of all planets and the ruler of the universe, is Maheshwara.)
Surrendering to Mahadev is the key to overcoming planetary troubles. When we seek his refuge with devotion, even the most challenging planetary influences lose their grip. Through his grace, one can find peace, health, and freedom from suffering.
Planets and Their Role in Health
In Vedic astrology, health is primarily determined by three key factors:

One of the most powerful mantra is The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a divine remedy prescribed in the scriptures to overcome diseases, untimely death (Akaal Mrityu), and karmic afflictions. By understanding planetary influences on health and invoking the grace of Mahadev, one can achieve both physical healing and spiritual upliftment.
Mahadev : The Supreme Healer & The Power of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
Vedic astrology emphasizes that no planetary affliction is beyond the grace of Bhagwan Mahadev, the ruler of all nine planets (Navagrahas). The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra declares:
“सर्वेषां ग्रहपीडानां शमनं हरस्मृतिः।”
“Remembering Lord Shiva pacifies all planetary afflictions.”
The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra – The Ultimate Healing Prayer The most powerful remedy for health issues and karmic suffering is the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, dedicated to Lord Shiva:
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् |
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात् ||
“We bow to the three-eyed One, the fragrant and nourishing force of the universe. Just as a fruit falls from its stem, may we be liberated from the cycle of death and mortality.”
Sankalp (Intention) for Chanting the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
“Today, I resolve to chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra with devotion. I visualize Lord Shiva’s compassionate gaze, blessing me with health and protection. I surrender my fears and suffering at His feet and seek divine healing.”
Begin by chanting minimum 21 times, then progress to 108 times daily, allowing Mahadev’s energy to cleanse your aura and strengthen your life force.
Conclusion: Embracing Health Through Divine Grace
Faith, devotion, and righteous actions (Dharma) ultimately determine our well-being. By chanting the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, worshiping Lord Shiva, and following astrological remedies, we can balance planetary afflictions and cultivate inner strength.
As the Brihat Samhita beautifully states:
“उद्यंते हि ग्रहाः सर्वे सौम्याः क्रूराश्च मानव।
कर्माणि शुभदुःखानि जनयन्ति यथाशुभम्॥”
“Planets give both joy and suffering, but our actions shape their influence.”
May Mahadev bless us all with health, peace, and spiritual liberation. Har Har Mahadev!
